Callaway staffer Xander Schauffele is one of the pre-tournament favorites this week in his hometown of San Diego. He’s dialed in for Torrey Pines with his Epic Speed Driver, an Odyssey Arm Lock Putter, and the Chrome Soft X LS Ball that he put in play with an eye on the U.S. Open.
Here’s a look at his gear heading into this week, and other Callaway equipment news as we look to make it back-to-back PGA TOUR major wins.
Xander’s Chrome Soft X LS Ball
Xander is using a new Chrome Soft X LS Golf Ball that he first put in play at The Memorial – Johnny Wunder has the full details on our website. Xander made this switch in part to dial in his gear for Torrey Pines, and he was specifically looking to reduce spin (200-300 rpm) across the bag.
His driver ball speeds have increased from the low 170 mph range up to the low 180 mph range, and that increase in speed has translated through the bag, which in turn has impacted his spin rates. Once the Chrome Soft X LS was introduced into the testing process, Xander dropped 200 RPMs roughly across the bag and he was back in the spin windows that he is used to seeing.
Our Callaway U.S. Open Staff Bag
Our major staff bag for this week highlights the picturesque landscape and seaside location of Torrey Pines, with red, white and blue colors for a classic design inspiration. La Jolla is an idyllic destination in Southern California, and this concept captures the essence of the unique locale, and the prestige of the U.S. Open.
Xander is a San Diego native and we’ve partnered with him to give fans a chance to win a U.S, Open bag and headcovers that are signed by Xander himself. To enter, follow @callawaygolf and @xanderschauffele on Instagram, like this post, and tag three friends. You’ll be seeing these bags all over the course this week.
